Metaplane is a data observability platform designed to help data teams be the first to know when something is broken. I joined to evolve and scale the brand for a product-led growth focus across digital and event surfaces.

When I first joined Metaplane, they had a logo designed, brand color chosen, and typography set. I was tasked with elevated the brand into a more playful, approachable representation of a technical product. I set to work building out a color system that could flex into the app for product designers, creating supporting brand elements for use across marketing and product surfaces, and developing repeatable style combinations of visual elements for a variety of uses across the customer journey.
I was tasked with describing how the core part of the Metaplane platform works through a video that we could use in paid advertising and as a backdrop to certain events. I worked with the design agency o0 to create the following video. I worked as Creative Director, designed all of the storyboards, and provided motion direction to the o0 team for motion and sound production.
For dbt Coalesce 2024 we wanted Metaplane to show up big for our primary audience: individual contributor data engineers. I'd been thinking about overlapping personal interests to working interests for data engineers and came up with the idea of "the world runs on data" as the theme for this years event presence. We could leverage that theme into an ancillary morning run event rather than just another happy hour as the event typically has at least a dozen of those from other vendors.
The goal for the event was a 150% increase in demos year over year. We beat that by 595%, booking 120 demos over the 20 demos booked the previous year (which I had not been present for).
